New Delhi, India – May 15, 2025: India has strongly condemned China’s latest attempt to rename several locations within Arunachal Pradesh, reaffirming its position that the region is an integral part of India.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) released a statement, criticizing China’s unilateral actions, stating, “Arunachal Pradesh has always been, and will always be, an inalienable part of India. Efforts to assign invented names to places in the state will not change this reality.”
Background of the Dispute
This move is part of an ongoing territorial dispute, as China claims the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh as “South Tibet.” The two nuclear-armed neighbors share a 3,440-kilometer-long border, where tensions have occasionally flared, including the deadly Galwan Valley clash in 2020.
Impact on Bilateral Relations
Analysts believe that these actions could further strain India-China relations, which have been under pressure due to border disputes, trade tensions, and geopolitical rivalries.
India’s Firm Stance
India has repeatedly emphasized the need for peace and stability in the region, urging China to respect the existing agreements and not disrupt the status quo.
